Part of the appeal of Mageseeker, League of Legends’ newest spin-off game, is that you get to play as Sylas, the unshackled. Unlike other mages, Sylas doesn’t have a specific elemental power. As far as his powers go, he has the unique ability to copy and use other people’s magical spells. So, as you play through Mageseeker, you get to copy and use fire, ice, earth, wind, light, and dark magic. But how do you unlock all these spells?
Where do spells come from in Mageseeker?
There are two important factors in unlocking spells in Mageseeker: copying from enemies and your spell weaver friend, Leilani, the leader of the rebels. You steal from your foes to gain access to the spells and once you do, Leilani helps you add them to your roster.
How to copy spells in Mageseeker
You only get access to new spells once you’ve copied them from enemies. Luckily for you, unless you’re facing basic longsword soldiers, almost every single enemy you face has a unique magical ability you can steal. For your benefit, the game explains how to do this during the tutorial level. You can hijack enemy spells by targeting them and pressing Shift + left click. This now places the copied spell at the center of your spell wheel, and if you press Q, you can immediately use it against said enemies. However, once you use the ability, you don’t have access to the spell anymore unless you copy it again or unlock it permanently at the rebel base. That’s where Leilani comes in.

Your other option to increase your spell options is Leilani. Leilani, like Sylas, has a unique mage ability: she’s a spell weaver. That means that she can transpose other spells onto things like runes and stones for people to use. This becomes particularly useful for Sylas as he naturally can juggle a whole host of spells. So, after you’ve copied a magical ability at least once, you can go back to Leilani and, for a price, unlock the spell permanently. This means that Leilani will etch the spell onto a rune and you can use it at any time during combat.
That’s where your spell wheel comes in, and how Slyas can hold, cast, and switch between up to four spells. As long as he has the mana for it, of course. When you purchase all mana upgrades, the game can become a lot of fun as you cast multiple spells in succession. But without your own copying abilities or Leilani’s runes, you’ll never be able to have that much fun.
