The Pokémon TCG Pocket game is making its way to Android and iOS devices sometime in 2024. This new game will allow you to collect, trade, and battle tons of Pokémon Trading Card Game cards. In real life, these cards are becoming ever harder to get because of their price and how many people are trying to scalp them for a profit. However, will Pokémon TCG Pocket be free?
Is Pokémon TCG Pocket a free-to-play game?
Pokémon TCG Pocket is a free-to-start game, so you do not have to put any money down to download and play the game. However, as is the case with other free-to-play games, you will be asked to spend for various content. As of this writing, we do not know the specifics of the cost of packs and microtransactions in the game, but they will be there.
Luckily, the game’s announcement trailer does show that players receive two free booster packs daily. Even if you decide not to put any money into the game, your collection will slowly grow. However, this is a tactic many games use these days to entice you to purchase card packs. Remember that trading cards are essentially a real-life version of loot boxes, so we have come full circle here with the Pokémon TCG.
We are sure there will be plenty of other free content in Pokémon TCG Pocket outside of the two free packs a day. Like Pokémon Go, the game should run events and various side content that we learn about before release to make the game more desirable to keep coming back to outside of collecting cards. Maybe this release will also help lessen the pressure on real world card releases as well.
