There are numerous Mario games that incorporate multiplayer so family and friends can join your adventures. Does Super Mario RPG Remake have co-op multiplayer?
Just like the original version of the game, Super Mario RPG remake does not have multiplayer. Mario is the main star, as usual, and while he has particular characters join his party this time around, he is the only one you control outside of combat. No other player can join the game and move characters around the open world.
While it may be disappointing to some that there is no co-op in Super Mario RPG, it’s not that surprising at all. As stated above, the original version of the game on SNES also didn’t have multiplayer, and traditionally, large RPG adventures like this are single-player experiences.
Just because multiple people can’t play Super Mario RPG at the same time doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the game with others. The story is enjoyable, so as long as someone is okay with watching, you can both have some laughs as Mario interacts with all the colorful characters spread throughout the game. Passing the controller back and forth with your partner could be fun as well. You could also set a rule that after every battle, you have to trade.
Super Mario RPG is a solo experience all the way through, so there is little to no chance that Nintendo will add the functionality in the future. If you want a multiplayer Mario experience, we recommend playing something like Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
