Critical Role, a TTRPG-based livestream show led by voice actors, has made a major announcement. They are launching their first-ever membership service called Beacon. Beacon.tv is based off a magical artifact from their second campaign that played a major role in the plotline. This membership service promises extra content, plenty of perks, and an ad-free experience.
By using a paid service, Critical Role is able to side-step more traditional advertising methods for their revenue. That can make Beacon a big incentive for those willing to pay for its service. They promise nothing is changing about their shows on YouTube and Twitch, so no membership will be required to continue watching them as always.
Some of the perks of Beacon include pre-sales for live events, discounts for their merchandise, and a private Discord. There will also be a Critical Role podcast exclusive to Beacon after each episode, and more shows that will only be available through this service. A monthly Critical Role Fireside Chat will take questions from viewers in a Q&A-style show. After each Thursday show, Critical Role Cooldown will follow the cast after the game reflecting on all that happened. Critical Role Abridged will take what is normally a four-hour episode and condense it to 60-90 minutes. This is very helpful for those who fall behind watching, or are new to the series and want to catch up. And finally, The Re-Slayer’s Take is a new adventure campaign following a different cast of characters.
A seven-day free trial is currently available for beacon.tv. After that, the service is a mere $5.99 monthly or $59.99 annually.
So get ready to roll the dice! Just don’t stare into the beacon for too long . . .
