After the first two seasons of Critical Role’s “The Legend of Vox Machina” have been met with success on Amazon, fans of the livestreamed D&D series have been eagerly awaiting news about the Mighty Nein. While there is still no official date set, series stars Matthew Mercer and Liam O’Brien have good news to share.
For those who haven’t picked up a 20-sided dice in a decade, Critical Role has been dominating the TTRPG entertainment space since 2015. The first campaign, centered around the adventuring group Vox Machina, has gone on to be turned into comics, books, and a television series on Amazon.
Their second campaign, centered on the Mighty Nein, ended in 2021. Since then, fans have eagerly been awaiting news of this new beloved story coming to their television. With Critical Role moving onto a third campaign with other spinoff shows and a third season of “The Legend of Vox Machina” in production, there hasn’t been much news.
But, at last, the cast is beginning to talk about it.
Liam O’Brien, who played the wizard Caleb Widogast, stated the Mighty Nein TV shows is “coming along beautifully.”
Matthew Mercer, the Dungeon Master for Critical Role, said “We’re heavy in development on Campaign Two’s animated series right now, and it’s coming along so well.”
Mercer also teased that the Mighty Nein’s show will explore more side characters and storylines that didn’t get a spotlight when the game was played at the D&D table. This includes the sinister Cerberus Assembly that introduced a major campaign villain, Trent Ikithon. And the Kryn Dynasty with fan-favorite character Essek Thelyss.
In reference to the upcoming series, O’Brien had this to say. “The things that I have seen have blown me away, and I know people are going to love it.”
