Ganondorf is The Legend of Zelda’s most recognizable villain. While he is not the main antagonist of every game, it is always memorable when he shows up. For that reason, we are excited to see his return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The big change this time around is that we will hear him talk for the first time ever. Here is who is voicing Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom.
Who is the voice of Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
If you play a lot of video games and watch other media primed for voice acting, you will likely recognize the voice of Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom. Matthew Mercer is bringing his talents to the game and giving the big bad his first official voice in a Zelda game, joining the returning voice of Princess Zelda, Patricia Summersett.
Mercer is well-known in various nerdy communities. In the Dungeons & Dragons sphere, he is the GM for Critical Role, a significant force for pushing the tabletop game into more people’s minds these days. In video games, he is the voice of Cassidy in Overwatch, Chrom from Fire Emblem, Like a Dragon’s Goro Majima, and many other roles.
On the lesser-known side of his past roles, this isn’t the first time Mercer has played Ganondorf, although this is the first official instance. He played Ganon back in the fan-made internet series, There Will Be Brawl. This Super Smash Bros. Brawl-inspired project took a darker tone when combining many of Nintendo’s popular characters.
If anyone is going to give Ganondorf a voice, Matt Mercer is one of the few actors we are excited to hear do it. He has shown he cares about this opportunity, and we love his past work. It will be interesting to see the general reception once the game is out.
