Ghoulification is a real threat in the Fallout universe. Get too much radiation and you can turn into a feral monster roaming the wasteland looking for your next meal. Live through the process and you require constant attention to prevent yourself from turning feral. On the plus side, you are completely immune to radiation and are somewhat immortal. We just hope that you don’t mind your nose falling off.
You already need to deal with mongrels, cultists, and radiation sickness in Fallout 76 so why not add ghoulification to the list? At least that is what joe_jolley_yoe proposed on the Fallout 76 Reddit page. In the post, they asked, “If they added ghoulification would you do it?” While there would be a lot of drawbacks, many vault dwellers seem excited to turn their characters into irradiated beings.
One user commented on the post saying, “I’ve been waiting for a playable ghoul for DECADES.” They continued on to say, “If I’m able to in FO5 [Fallout 5], I’ll turn all my characters and allies into ghouls.” That is dedication to the idea of being a ghoul. Another user commented, “Downside in the wasteland being…..? I’m a mutant already, permanently addicted to 2 chems, launch silo nukes for laughs and terrorize all 4 corners of the world we’re allowed to with a wrist-mounted IFF and happy trigger fingers. Bring on ghoulification, it’ll only add to the flavor.”
Another user stated, “I wanted this since I first played a Bethesda game.” It is obvious that fans of the series desperately want their character to turn into a ghoul so Bethesda better start paying attention to what the fans want. The only downsides we can think of are a bit of ghoul racism and the need to stave off going feral using some chems. That is if Bethesda decides to go the route that they took The Ghoul in the TV show. So should Fallout 76 add ghoulification in a future update?
