Move over Diablo, because there’s a new ARPG coming to town. Paizo, the company behind the tabletop roleplaying game, is working on Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults. The game is completely separate from previous games such as Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. You won’t be building a party of adventurers to explore, oh no. This time around, you’ll become a legendary hero from the world and battle through a vast dungeon. So, sit awhile and, wait no, sorry wrong game. Roll a d20 and see what Abomination Vaults is all about.
What is Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults?
Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is a brand-new game from BKOM Studios and Paizo — not to be confused with the campaign book of the same name, which it is inspired by. Unlike the traditional tabletop game from which Pathfinder is based, the game will be more action-oriented and fast-paced. You’ll choose from a number of named heroes, such as Amiri and Ezren, and delve into the dungeon of Gauntlight Keep to fight back hordes of monsters and sorceress Belcorra Haruvex.
The story will work similarly to that of a Diablo game, and instead of controlling multiple characters as you would in the tabletop game, you’ll play as just one. The game is set entirely in what the team is calling a “megadungeon.” This large sprawling dungeon is full of traps, beasts, and abominations you’ll have to fight back if you want to get out alive. You’ll be able to wield giant greatswords, bows, magic, and more to overcome challenges and slay fearsome foes.
The title was announced in April 2023, along with the information that Paizo and BKOM would be partnering together to make two new games set in the Pathfinder universe. This is the first official reveal of one of those games.
As a huge fan of tabletop RPGs, I’m looking forward to checking out Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults. The gameplay looks stunning and being able to carry around a giant sword is always good fun. Especially when you’re slaying massive demonic spiders.
