Project U Anime Cutscene Leaked, Ubisoft Reportedly Still “Holding On” to It

An Ubisoft game referred to as Project U, or Pathfinder internally, has had its anime-like intro cutscene leaked onto YouTube. The leaker who posted the video, says that the company “is still holding on to this game,” which is quite a bit ambiguous. While it seems to imply the game hasn’t been canceled, we can’t really tell if that means the game is still in development, or if it has been put on the side burner and could never be brought up again.

What is Project U?

From the looks of the cutscene, it seems that Project U would operate similarly to Helldivers 2, in that you would team up with friends, shoot down to the planet, and endlessly shoot hordes of robotic enemies and make your way into their bases to blow them up. Supposedly, though, there are other teams also working their way through zones, so it sounds like there would be a competitive nature to see which team can work to get to the end the fastest.

Obviously without seeing actual gameplay it is hard to tell what is going on, but given how stylized and unique the characters are, we imagine that there are some hero shooter elements to this. That’s just speculation, but we could see a world where who you choose has unique abilities compared to the rest of the roster. If anything, we are sure there will be some kind of loadout system in the game.

According to Insider Gaming, Project U started development in 2019, but as of a year ago, development ceased, and many people moved on to different jobs. While Ubisoft believes that the game can find success like Helldivers, apparently playtests brought up issues of replayability. While the game appeared to be fun, it was very repetitive, another comparison to Helldivers that we could believe.
