Respawn Entertainment has posted on Twitter that they have canceled two “early-stage incubation” projects, or essentially games that don’t have much development time put into them, and while they didn’t go far to describe exactly what was axed, we know it is not the next Star Wars Jedi game or the next iteration of Apex Legends. IGN is reporting that they have heard around 100 workers are being affected by the transition.

What incubation games are Respawn Entertainment canceling?

In the image posted on social media above, Respawn essentially say they are doubling down on their focus on both Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games. If we look outside of those two franchises, we may get a decent idea of what was canceled. First, at the beginning of March a former EA developer posted a since-deleted LinkedIn post that the incubation project she was a part of was canceled. This project was expected to be a multiplayer first-person shooter, but little else is known about it besides that.

As for the other game, we don’t know what else EA decided to cancel, but we would say none of this is good news for those hopeful that Titanfall 3 would be coming in the future. Earlier this month, we wrote about a couple of leakers who said that the sequel was set to be announced at The Game Awards this year, with a release in 2026. Since then, others like Jeff Grubb, have been adamantly saying Titanfall 3 doesn’t exist at all. When we’re talking about Respawn specifically, though, there are only so many options we can reliably point to unless they were working on a completely new IP or more Star Wars stuff.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, after years of cancellations and layoffs, the gaming industry is still not in a great spot, and Respawn is showing that once again. Like so many others, it looks like they  are putting all of their chips in on their biggest earners and hoping that carries them into the future.
