Overwatch 2 is celebrating the community’s creativity for the next two weeks by officially bringing a map created during a developer stream back in 2022 into rotation. Called Talantis, the map is available in both Arcade and Custom Games for players to hop into until it is removed.

Usually, you would look at a new map being brought to Overwatch 2 and not think much of it, but the circumstances here are unique. For starters, the map was created during a livestream in late 2022. Called Twitch Makes Overwatch, game director Aaron Keller, art director Dion Rogers, and community manager Andy Belford took feedback from their watchers to build the play space you can now fight in.

Talantis is a non-canon map meant to be an underwater base for the terrorist group in Overwatch, Talon. It is a control map, but unlike other maps in this style, there is only one location instead of three. When you leave your spawn ship, you will quickly notice this map is unique. A large floating island requires you to platform across bounce pads to reach it, and there are plenty of side areas you can explore. Large fish swim around the map, demanding at least a little bit of your attention. Additionally, players need to be careful while standing on the point, as a few platforms will open up and drop any unaware bystanders into a death pit.

Just one quick look at Talantis will show you this isn’t location isn’t meant to be taken seriously. For starters, everything is blocky, like the very early development stages of a map. We kind of love it even more for its humble nature. We wouldn’t mind seeing more early beta-type builds of maps just to see how they used to look.

Don’t expect Overwatch 2’s Talantis to become an official map in Quick or Competitive play, but we definitely recommend giving it a look before it goes away on May 8. This is a fun inclusion born from the developers and community teaming up and having fun.
