PlayStation State of Play Announced For June 2nd

Fans are being treated to a PlayStation State of Play that looks to kick off showcase season in the gaming world. PlayStation also announced it is hosting live fan gatherings to watch this State of Play at select Alamo Drafthouses. The last State of Play event was held back in February, where gamers got a nice look at Saros, Marathon, and Beast of Reincarnation. Now, fans are left to wonder what will show up this time around for the blue brand.

Get Your Claws Out

A new X post made by PlayStation revealed that a State of Play will be hosted on June 2, 2026. The event itself will be an hour long and will give gamers an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set to open the show. As for the rest of the show, this event is also set to feature more announcements about various PS5 titles.

State of Play returns on June 2.

The last time we got a good look at Marvel’s Wolverine was during a State of Play in 2025. This time around, fans should expect another action-packed trailer, along with more gameplay details that pertain to the game’s story and setting. And according to Insomniac, fans should expect pre-orders for this game to go live shortly after this brand new look.

Hello Old Friend

With an hour to occupy, there is a lot of open space to showcase new and exciting games coming from PlayStation. A game we already know about, like Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet, could be primed for at the very least another trailer, but there are bigger fish to fry here.

A recent rumor coming from NateTheHate indicates that PlayStation, at the very least, is toying around with the idea of reviving older, untouched IP. Pair this with some words from the VGC’s Jordan Middler about a new Infamous game being in development, but not from Sucker Punch, and fans can be quick to get excited. Of course, with any rumors, take it with a massive grain of salt, but it would be wise for PlayStation to cash in on its long-dormant backlog of amazing titles and potentially have something at this show if it’s ready.

Setting the Stage

PlayStation has a lot of housekeeping to do to put fans on the right path forward with a solid yet strong lineup of first-party games. Following the release of The Wolverine, there is a pretty sizeable void until the yet to be announced release date of Intergalatic The Heratic Prophet, which can be many years away still. PlayStation, come June 2nd, has the stage set for a strong showing, which could feature a strong lineup of games. This would also be a great opportunity for them to remind the gaming industry why they’re the top dog in the gaming world.
