Pokémon Bank to be Shut Down in February 2027

Pokémon Bank originally launched in 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS as a means for trainers to store up to 3,000 of their beloved Pokémon from their older games. Since then, the franchise has seen a revision of sorts with the introduction of apps like Pokémon Home that generally serve the same purpose as Pokémon Bank. But now trainers will be forced to make some tough choices as Pokémon Bank is set to close its doors in the near future.

The Bank is Now CLOSED

The Pokémon Company recently announced via its Japanese website that Pokémon Bank will close its doors on Friday, February 26, 2027. This time was chosen to grant trainers the proper amount of time to move their Pokémon over to modern platforms. Once this date passes, you will no longer be able to connect to the Pokémon Bank platform, and its connectivity to Pokémon Home will be cut as well.

What is raising some alarms for trainers around the world is a glaring issue for the Nintendo Switch era of Pokémon games. Within this era, the franchise has not included all 1,025 Pokémon, with a handful of them only being available via Pokémon GO and a few locked behind special events. This presents a challenge to trainers who are looking to complete a living Pokédex.

A Poetic End

The end date for Pokémon Bank aptly falls on the day prior to Pokémon Day. This is ironic because this is typically a day for celebration of the franchise’s anniversary for the release of Red and Green in Japan. It would also be safe to assume a Pokémon Presents will be slated for sometime over that weekend, where fans could hopefully get more clarity or a countermeasure to all their concerns over this massive change in our quest to catch them all.
