Have you heard of the brand new, ambitious title Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon? The game is coming from Polish indie developer Questline and publisher Awaken Realms. It’s a promising Elder Scrolls-esque RPG teaming with beautiful vistas and tense combat! It may have slipped under your radar recently behind such announcements as Indiana Jones: The Great Circle and Avowed, but I assure you this is one title that commands your attention!
This promising game containing roughly 10-15+ hours of core gameplay has been released on Steam in early access since March 20th, 2023 to positive reception with source material rooted in the cult table-top game with the same title. It shares the same dark and mysterious settings and undertones as well, blending Arthurian legends and Celtic mythology.
As described on the game’s Steam page, “Step into a dark reimagination of Arthurian legends in this first person, open world RPG. Explore a world stuck in everlasting autumn, witness falling legends and make meaningful choices woven into a complex, branching storyline.” Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon seeks to be a true first-person, open world RPG.
In its recent Gamescom trailer, some story details and gameplay features were showcased. Here are a few notable notable gameplay features that seem quite enticing:
- Unrestricted exploration throughout the Dark World
- Various play styles and character builds; from mage to soldier and beyond.
- Tense first-person combat.
- Fully voiced quests with multiple endings.
- Immersive game systems like fishing, cooking and thievery to name just a few.
The gameplay features and adventure don’t end there. Find more details about the game here!
With hints of Skyrim, Dungeons and Dragons and a touch of Dark Souls, I am more than tempted to enter the Wyrdness infested Arthurian lands of Avalon, day one when it launches in Q2 of 2025. Until then, we will keep our eyes on Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and provide more coverage as development and release details emerge.
