Assassin’s Creed Hexe Loses 50 Developers and Game Director

Over the past year, Ubisoft has undergone massive changes behind the scenes in an attempt to revitalize its most popular franchises. The franchise that has seen the most significant change has been the Assassin’s Creed franchise, with an overall restructuring of its leadership hierarchy and approach to game development. Recently, it was reported that Assassin’s Creed Hexe not only lost 50 developers but the game’s director as well, which could signal an array of internal struggles.

Darker Times

An exclusive report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson indicates that Assassin’s Creed Hexe has lost approximately 50 developers as the new Assassin’s Creed leadership team looks to continue making internal studio changes. The report also claims that the 50 developers who were removed from Hexe were placed in Ubisoft’s Interproject team, “which serves as a home for developers who are not assigned a project at Ubisoft.” Henderson also went on to state that the developers are required to find a new project at Ubisoft within a three-month time span, or they could potentially face redundancy.

Amid these changes, the director of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Benoit Richer, also announced that he has left Ubisoft. As stated in his recent LinkedIn post, “This is the beginning of a new chapter: I’m joining Servo Games as Game Director! An indie studio of industry veterans, aligned around a shared vision of the industry and experience creation, with a strong complementary skill set.” Richer served as a game director for Ubisoft since 2017 and previously served as a game director at Warner Bros. Games as well.

A New Age of Assassins

One could only hope that Ubisoft’s attempt to restructure the Assasin’s Creed franchise isn’t in vain and could revitalize the property. For now, it is assumed that despite all of the behind-the-scenes changes to Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the game is still marked down for a June 2027 release. It’s also worth noting that Insider Gaming sources speculate that removing those 50 developers is an attempt to stay under budget, but the game could also face a potential delay to sometime in the holiday 2027 window because of it.
