Since Ubisoft’s overall restructuring, fans have been left without clarity on where the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be taken moving forward. Recently, it was revealed that two Far Cry games, along with several Assassin’s Creed games, are currently in development. And we now know who will lead these projects into the future.
It Always Comes in Threes
It was recently announced via a new X post that three veteran leaders have been chosen to carry forward the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. They will have a tall task ahead of them in driving the Assassin’s Creed brand’s long-term vision, creative ambition, and continued growth.
Martin Schelling will take on the role of Head of the Assassin’s Creed Brand and will have a primary focus on “overall strategy and long-term vision of the brand.” Schelling is said to have a “profound understanding of Assassin’s Creed,” which can be attributed to his leadership roles in games like Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Black Flag, Origins, and Valhalla. Recently, he served as Ubisoft’s Chief Production Officer.
Jean Guesdon will serve as Head of Content for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and will be responsible for leading overall creative direction, supporting individual games, and guiding the future. Guesdon’s resume includes being the creative director of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Black Flag.
Finally, we have François de Billy, who has been named as the Head of Production Excellence in Assassin’s Creed’s new leadership trio. François de Billy will have a pivotal role in strengthening production practices and execution across the entire brand. He was previously known for being the Production Director for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Origins.
A Leap of Faith
The trio will slowly be introduced to their new roles over the coming weeks alongside a plethora of new hires whose main goal is to revive the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It is good to see that people who’ve had boots on the ground when talking about the Assassin’s Creed franchise are now in key leadership roles and are looking to bring about a new era of assassination.
But let us all not forget that nothing is true, everything is permitted. The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been in the dumps over recent years, and that can be traced back to Ubisoft’s desire to stray away from the classic Assassin’s Creed formula and opt for a more RPG-like offering. So fans could hold out hope that with franchise veterans at the helm, they know where to steer this ship and how to get back to the golden age of this beloved video game franchise.
