Minecraft’s Trails and Tales update includes the Sniffer, a big red and green beast with a particular palate. This passive creature is as peaceful as they come. After being believed to essentially be extinct, you can find a few of their eggs hidden away in Warm Water Ruins. With some effort, you can hatch them on dry land and they can help you get access to ancient items hidden beneath the dirt. But what about breeding and healing them, though? Here what to feed your Sniffers in Minecraft to keep them happy and healthy.

What to feed Sniffers in Minecraft

What do Sniffers eat in Minecraft? They are certainly a unique case among Minecraft’s many mobs. They don’t eat any normal food like Apples, Wheat, or the meat you gather from Cows, Sheep, and Chicken. Instead, these big fuzzy beasts only eat Torchflower Seeds.

Torchflower Seeds are only obtained when a Sniffer digs them up from a Dirt block. They will randomly walk around the area and put their nose to the ground as they notice something. Of course, there are also other items the Sniffer can find, like other extinct plants similar to the Torchflower, but if you’re looking for what to feed a Sniffer in Minecraft, the Torchflower seeds are what you’re after.

After the Sniffer digs up Torchflower Seeds, go over and pick up the item. You can then interact with your Sniffer to give and feed them the Seeds. If your Sniffer has taken any damage, it will slightly heal it. If they are at full health, they will go into love mode and begin looking for a mate to breed a Snifflet with.

As of this writing, Torchflower seeds are the only items you can feed to a Sniffer. They could potentially eat other ancient plant seeds, or other items introduced in a future update, but we don’t have any information on those changes just yet. Should there be changes to what to feed a Sniffer in Minecraft in future updates, we’ll make sure to update this article.
