Resident Evil 9 is one of the most anticipated horror titles that hasn’t even been revealed. While the game is currently in development over at Capcom, no word of a release date or even a trailer has been seen. With that being said, there are a ton of rumors surrounding the game including its potential protagonists, story, and locations. Resident Evil 9 is also rumored to be revealed during The Game Awards this month so let’s break down each rumor we have heard so we have a baseline of expectations for the possible reveal.
All of the Resident Evil 9 rumors revealed
Resident Evil 9 has had its fair share of rumors and leaks since the release of Resident Evil: Village. Let’s start with the characters. The main protagonists for Resident Evil 9 have been heavily rumored to be Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine. Chris Redfield and Barry Burton will act as supporting characters, helping Leon and Jill throughout the campaign. Along with this, rumors state that Jill looks how she did in RE: Death Island and Leon looks like he did in RE: Damnation.
Next up, we have the story of Resident Evil 9. Rumor around this says that it is set four years after the events of Resident Evil: Village. Jill and Leon will be tasked with investigating an island belonging to the company that created Eveline. Here, the company is using its technology to create clones of Eveline using the Megamycete. During the events of the story, Jill and Leon will be infected with the Megamycete. In search of a cure, they will use Rosemary Winters’ blood to create a vaccine for them and the island’s residents. This will conclude the story from Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village.
Moving on, we have the locations. According to RinoTheBouncer on X, the locations on the Island include:
- Abandoned hospital
- Caves
- Abandoned Houses
- Dark Forest
- Abandoned Factory
- Laboratory
- Temple
Along with the locations, the content creator posted a list of enemies we could expect to see including:
- Evolved zombies that can use melee weapons
- Enemies that worship the moon and show this by having moon tattoos as well as singing to the moon
- Stalker enemies
- The Goatman
- Mr. Simon (main antagonist)
It is important to note that one of the rumors states that “Leon will be stalked by a constant enemy.” This is very reminiscent of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 or Nemesis from Resident Evil 3. It has been a while since there has been a good stalker enemy in a Resident Evil game so it will be nice to see the return.
Will Resident Evil 9 be revealed at The Game Awards?
It has been heavily rumored that Resident Evil 9 will be revealed this month with a large focus on The Game Awards. @IgnusTheWise on X shared a post last month where they predicted the game would be revealed in December. Since the focus will be on Monster Hunter Wilds, they said there is a large possibility that RE9 could be revealed since Capcom will need something for players to look forward to after Wilds is released.
