Nintendo is adding two new F-Zero games to its Game Boy Advance library on the Nintendo Switch Online Plus Expansion service, and one of them is officially playable outside of Japan for the first time. On October 11, both F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax will be added to the service and playable for anyone with the expanded online subscription that gives them access to Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance games. Additionally, F-Zero 99 is getting five new maps from the Satellaview BS F-Zero Grand Prix.
F-Zero: GP Legend was originally released in 2003 for the GBA, but there was also an anime of the same name that had a short run in America, but went longer in Japan. While it is cool to see that, the bigger news here is that F-Zero Climax will be playable outside of Japan for the first time. This game was released in 2004 and was the last original F-Zero game until F-Zero 99 came to the Nintendo Switch Online service last year.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has brought previous regional exclusive games to new players. The three Densetsu no Stafy (otherwise known as Legendary Starfy) games were added to the GBA library earlier this year. Kirby has also had a previous Japan game in Kirby’s Superstar Stacker added to the SNES library last year. Like those previous games, it looks like there hasn’t been much translation work done, but we doubt there is much need for that in a racing game.
When F-Zero Climax and GP Legend are added on October 11, that will make it so every F-Zero that had a full public release outside of F-Zero GX will be playable on the Nintendo Switch. While there is still little to no hope of a full new game coming any time soon, at least fans of the series have that to look forward to.
