Xbox Game Pass has been through some turbulent times over the past year. The biggest story of them all was when the community scrutinized Game Pass for upping its prices by nearly 50%, which led many to abandon their subscription. This led Xbox’s CEO, Asha Sharma, to deem the service far “too unaffordable” and decrease the price tag over recent months. And according to new words by Asha Sharma, even more fixes are coming to service this summer.
Throwing a Change Up
An interview was recently held between Asha Sharma and Fortune Conversations, where she discussed the plan for Game Pass heading into the summer of 2026. First, Sharma explained how the price increased and how that caused a “decay in subscribers,” and it has become “too unaffordable.” This led to the company revamping its prices lately, and more changes are to come.
Since those changes were implemented, Game Pass has seen a bump in subscribers and better retention, which is vital to the long-term success of Game Pass. Xbox also knows that there is much more work to be done in order to net more people into the Xbox ecosystem. This is where Asha Sharma stated, “more this summer in order to create more flexible offerings to meet all the types of platers that we have, and we’ll continue to iterate on that.”
What’s The Play?
It is nice to see that the CEO of Xbox knows just how bad things have been for the Xbox brand in recent years. It is also nice to see a bit of self-reflection when it comes to doing good by the loyal Xbox fanbase. There have been rumors that Xbox is potentially implementing a “choose your own experience” service, but that has yet to be seen. For now, Asha Sharma has given more than enough proof that there is a plan in place for Xbox, and the only things that are needed now are time and patience to restore the grand image of Xbox heading into its next generation.
