In an alternate timeline, gamers around the world would be playing Grand Theft Auto 6 right now, seeing how it was supposed to release on May 26th following a delay from the fall of 2025. To many, November is too far away, and fans are foaming at the mouth for another trailer and are outright demanding pre-orders go live so they can lock down their spot on launch day. But this rabid demand for GTA 6 has sadly led to many unassuming fans falling victim to scammers who have launched malicious malware attacks and viruses on those who spring the trap.
Scams Have Gone Live
GTA 6 still can’t be pre-ordered officially despite multiple rumors suggesting something will go down soon enough. This time of desperation has spawned the prime opportunity for scammers to take advantage of the GTA 6 hype.
A recent investigation conducted by Nord VPN’s Threat Intelligence team unearthed a massive uptick in malware, scam campaigns, and phishing sites that are all geared towards Grand Theft Auto 6. The investigation claims that the sites would promise free GTA 6 codes, beta keys, and a sneak peek at the looming third trailer for the game. And while it shouldn’t be said, don’t trust anything GTA 6 related that isn’t coming from Rockstar directly or a reputable source.
The Trojan Virus
The examples that Nord VPN provided show that these scams are fairly convincing and are trying to gain Rockstar Social Club information from unsuspecting and uninformed users. The report from Nord VPN goes as far as to say that the malicious software presents itself as a legit game installer that springs the trap quietly in the background. So again, let this be your warning that there isn’t any magical way to gain access to the game or to be granted a fabled beta key before the game goes live in November.
