Should you give the book to Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3? What happens if you let him read the Necromancy of Thay? This creepy old book has been lying around for some time and it does offer some bonuses. You might also be wondering should you read the Necromancy of Thay in Baldur’s Gate 3. Of course, who you ultimately give the book to is your decision but there are some interesting interactions to be had.
Astarion is the pale elf vampire who you can befriend almost right away after the Nautiloid crash in Act One. The Necromancy of Thay can also be found in Act One if you search under the Blighted Village. Should you give the book to Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3? What are the consequences?
What happens if you give Astarion the Necromancy of Thay in Baldur’s Gate 3?
When you come across the Necromancy of Thay, Astarion will be intrigued by the book and so will Gale. You can then choose who gets to read the book or be mean and keep it for yourself. If you choose to let Astarion read the book, it will gain you some much-appreciated approval points. Astarion will disapprove if you let someone else read it.
Allowing Astarion to read the book will get him the Forbidden Knowledge trait, granting him a +1 bonus to Wisdom Saving Throws and Ability Checks. Later on, you can continue the quest with the book in Act Three. When you visit Sorcerous Sundries in Baldur’s Gate, you will get prompted to find the pages.
If you complete the quest and have Astarion read the book, he will learn the Danse Macabre spell, allowing him to summon Ghouls to aid you in battle. This spell summons five Ghouls. You are unable to control them and they will instead just attack whatever enemies they feel like. Thankfully, reading the book does not affect Astarion’s quest line.
The only downside comes if he fails the checks to read the book. When that happens, he will take a Wisdom debuff. Because of this, you should stock up on Inspiration Points or make sure to save before the checks. Another choice you can make is if you should get branded in Baldur’s Gate 3.
