If you’re a long-time Bethesda fan diving into Starfield, you’ll be on high alert for some of this developer’s popular Easter eggs. Lucky for you, one of their most famous in-jokes is definitely in the game — the sweet roll. But where can you find these beloved sweet rolls in Starfield? And do they look just as delicious as you hope they might be?
What is a sweet roll?
Sweet rolls are a running joke throughout Bethesda games and have been since Elder Scrolls: Arena. The treat appeared first in the character class creation question: “While in town the baker gives you a sweet roll. Delighted you take it into an alleyway to enjoy, only to be intercepted by a gang of three kids your age. The leader demands the sweet roll, or else he and his friends will beat you and take it.” The question is repeated during character creation in both Daggerfell and Morrowind.
From there, the sweet rolls became a staple Easter egg in Bethesda games. You first see it as a commonly beloved food item in Morrowind, and then in every Elder Scroll game afterward. Meanwhile, you also get one as a birthday gift in Fallout 3 and guards mock you by asking if someone stole your sweet roll in Skyrim. Sweet roll lovers will be delighted that the joke made its way into Starfield, too. The flavor text even describes the baked good as “the tastiest treat in any universe”.
Sweet Roll Locations in Starfield

Even among all of Starfield’s many futuristic foods — cubes, tubes, and alien meat included — sweet rolls managed to make their way to 2330 as a space-faring delicacy. They can be found in base and laboratory cafeterias across the universe. Despite the abundant food throughout Starfield, though, Sweet Rolls are actually a rarer edible item. In 34 hours of gameplay, the writer of this article only found one container of sweet rolls in an abandoned base on Mercury. So if you want to proudly display this iconic Bethesda Easter egg in your bedroom, be careful not to eat them. It might take a while before you find another.
