Just like with other survival games, you need to gather materials to help you survive in Smalland: Survive the Wilds. Being a small creature in such a big world, most of your resources will come from bugs and small plants. Chitin is one of the most useful items early on in the game since you need it to start getting some upgraded gear. This guide will show you how to get chitin in Smalland: Survive the Wilds.

Where to find chitin in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

Shortly after you start your journey across the map, you will begin building workbenches and a shelter. After building a workbench, you will have access to numerous crafting recipes that you wouldn’t have without it. One such recipe is for the Crude Hatchet. This item is needed to chop down Mauve Plants, Hedge Garlic, and more. Craft it ASAP or you will be suffering big time.

Luckily, you can obtain chitin pretty quickly. From where you spawn, head down south to the owl statue and cross the river via a root you can use to get across. Go to the area marked on the map above. Once there, you will want to make sure you have plenty of swords and bandages made. It also won’t hurt to have some armor if you can manage to make some.

Search this area for bugs called Sawyer Beetles. These are some of the best and only bugs that drop chitin. Killing one will always get you at least one chitin. Kill a bunch of these bugs and you will have more chitin than you know what to do with.
