The Black Ops fatigue is real amongst many within the Call of Duty fanbase. For the longest time now, rumors of this year’s Call of Duty being that of the Modern Warfare variety, more specifically Modern Warfare 4, this may be the fresh coat of paint the franchise needs. The best part about this is that fans might need to wait that much longer to see what Infinity Ward has been cooking.
It’s Almost Showtime
It’s been about three years since we last ventured into the Modern Warfare timeline with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. And given we’ve seen our fair share of leaks and rumors surrounding this next entry, this is more of a case of where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Recently, the smoke seems to have built up around a series of posts by Infinity Ward on X, which indicate they may have more to reveal soon enough. “On behalf of everyone at IW, we’re proud of what we’ve been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you.”
The second post is the one that cuts straight to the point and addresses where Infinity Ward wants to take the franchise next. In a separate post made by Infinity Ward, a Call of Duty Podcast was shown with the caption “Yes, we are making the definitive Modern Warfare.” That statement alone leaves little to the imagination as to where Call of Duty’s story is headed next. But fans can’t help but be a little bit wary of this next entry, given all the controversy that surrounds the top dog in the FPS space.
Countdown to the Finals
Taking into account the information that was presented by Infinity Ward, it is safe to assume that an announcement will be made within the next month. But I can do you one better and potentially pinpoint a potential window for the reveal down to the very week. In the sports world, the NBA finals are nearing, and that event has served as a proper venue to debut previous Call of Duty titles in the past, so it can be a likely candidate. Let’s not forget that Xbox is slated to hold its Xbox Summer Showcase on June 7th as well. I am more hesitant on that date simply because last year Call of Duty had its own dedicated direct so they may not want to double dip, and this year the focus will be on Gear of War: E-Day.
