Is it DLSS 5 or AI Slop? The Internet Reacts to NVIDIA’s Latest Announcement

DLSS 5 has officially been unveiled, and it is set to hit platforms later this year. The only issue is that everyone thinks it makes games look like “AI Slop,” with characters appearing as though they have been put through some type of cheap AI filter. The AI-powered tech uses real-time neural rendering to generate photorealistic lighting and visuals. Unfortunately, the images produced by DLSS 5 look anything but photorealistic, despite NVIDIA dubbing it the “company’s most significant breakthrough in computer graphics since the debut of real-time ray tracing.”

DLSS 5 Creates AI-Powered Slop

We have seen it everywhere in the past few years. People post images across Instagram, Facebook, and X, using AI-powered filters that change their look. Beautify filters have been very popular, and the use of AI has made them more effective. However, it is still easy to tell when they have been used to enhance a photo.

Earlier, NVIDIA unveiled DLSS 5, which uses AI to enhance a game’s visuals and lighting. The company showed off various games using the technology, including Resident Evil Requiem and Starfield. However, the biggest issue that everyone is pointing out is that every character model touched by the technology appears to be applied with a beautify filter.

Many replied to the Resident Evil Requiem post, with most agreeing that the game looked worse with DLSS 5 activated. Many stated that the character models look entirely different and that most of them look very generic. Memes sprouted up everywhere, with many comparing the character models to woman with large amounts of lip filler and makeup.

It is difficult to tell whether NVIDIA will be making any changes to DLSS 5 before its official release later this year. The company has not made any comment about the slew of memes caused by the announcement, but there could be mention of it soon.
