Insomniac Games is looking to continue their venture through the Marvel Universe with their highly anticipated X-Men game. Coming off the heels of The Wolverine, many fans are eagerly awaiting to see what the studio can pull off with this wide cast of characters. A new report has now potentially uncovered key gameplay components, including how many playable characters there will be, along with potential combat details.

X Marks the Spot

A new report coming from Insider Gaming focuses on a job listing from Insomniac Games that could point to future titles and the various mechanics within them. The job post in question is for a Staff Hero Designer position, whose central focus will be on the “combat, traversal, and 3Cs (camera, character, controls) for an upcoming project.” And while the listing itself does not mention a specific game, the listing claims that this person must deliver the “design and execution for one or more playable characters.” The listing also goes on to mention the word “characters” multiple times throughout the post.

Insomniac is rumored to have multiple projects in the works, like Spider-Man 3 and Marvel’s Venom, which will most likely be titles that feature singular characters. This X-Men game suddenly makes the most sense simply because this is a team of multiple heroes who all have different powers and means of traversal. The listing also mentions how this title will feature a 3rd-person perspective, like most Insomniac games are known to do.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

An X-Men game coming from Insomniac has been in the rumor mill since 2023, when the title was leaked as part of Insomniac’s plans for the Marvel license with PlayStation through 2025. And while the game on the surface sounds pretty similar to other Insomniac games, it will be interesting to see how they would handle not only multiple heroes, but potentially multiple branching storylines as the game unfolds.
