BlizzCon 2024 will not be happening. The big celebration of all of Blizzard Entertainment’s games usually takes place in November but will be skipped this year. While there will not be a singular event for announcing new additions to Overwatch, Diablo, Warcraft, and more, the company will be attending outside events like Gamescom in August.
The BlizzCon news comes courtesy of a blog on Blizzard’s website. While you won’t get a big explosion of news in November, it seems additions to various games will be drip-fed throughout the year. World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred were mentioned to be talked about in the next few months. Without hearing about any confirmed plans, we would imagine Xbox’s annual Summer Showcase would be where those expansions make appearances.
Why is BlizzCon 2024 not happening?
If we were to speculate why Blizzcon 2024 isn’t happening, we would guess that there wouldn’t be enough to show off. After the massive layoffs that Blizzard endured earlier this year, the production of their games has to have taken a hit. Also, if The War Within and Vessel of Hatred were released before November, they would have nothing to talk about with those games. Overwatch’s PvE has seemingly been completely scrapped, so all they would likely have to talk about is maybe a new hero. Outside of those games, fans would be very disappointed to see smaller games like Hearthstone, Diablo Immortal, and Warcraft Rumble be the headliners at Blizzcon.
According to the blog post, BlizzCon should make a return in the coming years. Scheduling around this event has been a little up in the air in recent years because of the pandemic and various circumstances within Activision Blizzard, but hopefully, it’s just a matter of time before the show can come back and be the usual spectacle it is for fans.
