Borderlands Fans Weigh in on What Borderlands 4 Needs

Borderlands 3 was not the best Borderlands game when it came to story. Many criticized how Gearbox focused on using memes and toilet humor over the satirical and raunchy comedy of the first two mainline titles. With that being said, the third entry in the series did give the franchise’s gameplay a much-needed boost. Additions like the cooperative and co-opetition modes were beloved by the fanbase. Players also loved the addition of more skill trees and a wider range of abilities for the Vault Hunters. With Borderlands 4 now officially announced, fans are weighing in on what Borderlands 4 needs if Gearbox wants to keep the franchise relevant and not have it fall behind like a Claptrap unit stuck at the bottom of the stairs.

What does Borderlands 4 need to thrive?

Recently, user CarlRJ posted about what Borderlands 4 needs on Reddit. In the post, the user focused on what popular YouTubers Joltzdude and Ki11er Six said about the title before adding what they would like to see. The YouTubers said obvious additions/changes such as a better story, better progression, and better scaling.

CarlRJ stated that they would like to see a decreased number of legendary drops. Anyone who has played Borderlands 3 knows that Gearbox made it rain legendaries, especially in the endgame. It would be nice to go back to Borderlands 1 or 2 levels of legendaries so they feel more special. The user also stated they would like to see better gunplay like in BL3, a better main menu, a better inventory management system, a rework of the banking system with some filters, and a matchmaking system similar to Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel.

Others chimed in on what they would like to see in Borderlands 4. From the comments, the following additions are the most commonly talked about:

  • A smaller number of planets with more biomes that feel unique
  • No more bosses that have immunity phases
  • Don’t require us to visit Sanctuary constantly
  • Implement a system to turn in missions without needing to meet up with the NPC
  • Focus more on the mystical side of the story rather than corporations
  • Keep the Borderlands 3 drop rates to prevent needing to farm for hours

This is a good list that will definitely help make Borderlands 4 the best it can be. Of course, many mentioned that they would like to see a better story overall because the story of Borderlands 3 was lackluster and the villains were not as compelling as Handsome Jack.

To add to the list above, here is a bit of what we would like to see in Borderlands 4:

  • Additional weapon types like melee weapons
  • A story focused around someone killing off Sirens
  • Have multiple skills for each Vault Hunter (similar to Borderlands 3 where you can change how your action skill operates)
  • A pirate-themed Vault Hunter class
  • Have a bit more of a serious story centered around the Eridians

Borderlands 4 is set to release next year and there are some who believe they have spotted the release date in the announcement trailer among other hidden secrets. Hopefully, Borderlands 4 blows everyone away. After all, many are saying that this is Gearbox’s final chance to do something good with this franchise.
