If you’re looking for a chiller version of Baldur’s Gate 3, then Worlds of Aria is the game for you. You control a party of characters pulled straight out of a TTRPG campaign. It’s all narrated by Laura Bailey, who is quite familiar with tabletop roleplaying games, having performed multiple characters in Critical Role. The game is launching later this year for PC and Nintendo Switch.
Mark your calendars for Worlds of Aria’s release on PC for September 24. A new release trailer showcased gameplay footage, characters, and Bailey as the game’s narrator. You’ll play as an adventuring party as they attempt to stop a demon from taking over a city. You can choose from 12 characters, though the trailer did appear to show up to 14, and each has their own set of skills and personality. Characters range from a rogue, bard, fighter, priest, among other backgrounds typically featured in tabletop games.
In the game you’ll encounter monsters and situations you must use dice to overcome. It uses a d100 system where you must roll lower than a specific number in order to succeed. If you roll over that number, you fail at the task and must then face the consequences. It’s a unique system that offers several outcomes depending on what you roll. You can earn a critical success, success, failure, or critical failure. This allows for numerous endings as well making it a game you can come back to and try different scenarios.
Developed by Ludogram and published by Ishtar Games, Worlds of Aria can be played solo or cooperatively.
The Switch version will be releasing later in 2024. There is a demo on Steam if you want to try out the game ahead of its release.
