Adding to the ever-expanding list of Pokémon collaborations (including last year’s viral Pokémon x Tiffany & Co.’s 18k gold Pikachu) is the franchise’s newest partnership with Colourpop Cosmetics, which combines makeup with nostalgia. This adorable collection, available now, allows makeup enthusiasts to express their love for Pokémon with 12 new makeup products, all inspired by the original Kanto region Pokémon and locations. Colourpop Cosmetics already has experience creating unique makeup products for other iconic Japanese media like Naruto and Sailor Moon — and this collaboration with Pokémon is no different in terms of being a special must-have for collectors. Here’s a look at all the products:
Eeveelutions Ultra Glossy Lip Trio
Starting the collection is “evolution,” a $27 ultra glossy lip kit that includes three lip glosses inspired by the original three Eevee evolutions: Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon. The shades are named Thunder Stone (yellow with pink chrome), Fire Stone (coral with gold chrome), and Water Stone (blue with pink chrome). However, it is important to keep in mind that these lip glosses are very sheer, so don’t expect an extreme color payoff. Instead, these would be perfect if you’re just looking for ultra-glossy lips with a *hint* of color and sparkle.
You’re a Catch! Lip Mask
Next, “you’re a catch” is a $12 lip mask formulated with a hydrating formula of squalane, shea butter, and vitamin E (also with a hint of sparkle). The product comes packaged in an adorable mini Pokéball jar that would be fun to either carry around in a purse or display on a shelf.
Starter Eyeshadows
The next three products are new shade variations of Colourpop’s popular “super shock shadows,” which are intensely pigmented creme-to-powder formulated eyeshadows. Each shade is sold individually for $9 and inspired by the original three starter Pokémon, “solar beam” (Bulbasaur = a teal green and pink), “flamethrower” (Charmander = a peachy coral with rainbow tones), and “hydro pump” (Squirtle = a blue with pink/violet tones). If we’re honest, the packaging for these super shock shadows leaves a little to be desired when compared to the rest of the collection, but at least there’s a cute little holographic symbol on each lid.
Pokémon Cream Blushes
Following this theme of threes, the Pokémon x Colourpop collection continues with three shades of cream blushes, sold individually for $14. Cream blushes provide a moisturizing alternative to liquid and powder blushes, and they can be applied with either a brush or your fingertips. The cream blush shades in this collection include “metronome” (a warm pink), “electroball” (a buildable red), and “hypnosis” (a violet-y color, but gives a pinker look on the skin). Though, we’re not sure why the packaging here makes it so Pikachu is the only one to get its own blush. The Pikachu favoritism is strong in this collection, which is unfortunate for those who might prefer other Kanto region Pokemon.
Jigglypuff, Pikachu, and Ditto Lip Balms
Arguably the most unique of all the products, these $12 pH lip balms sold out instantly upon release on Colourpop’s website. But don’t worry — they’re sure to be restocked soon, and Colourpop allows the opportunity to sign up for restock notifications through email. The three “shades” include “sing” (Jigglypuff), “thunderbolt” (Pikachu), and “transform” (Ditto). However, because these are pH lip balms, which begin as clear but change to a pink color based on the skin’s pH level, all three will produce the same color on an individual. Therefore, you’re really just paying for the unique packaging here. Each lip balm includes gorgeous glitter flakes trapped inside the balm.
Pokémon Eyeshadow Pallette
Lastly, our personal favorite from the Pokémon x Colourpop collection is the $30 eyeshadow palette, which is aptly named “palette town” after the town from the Kanto region. The colors of this palette stand out for their diversity, with ample opportunity to create a wide variety of looks, from natural everyday to dramatic, bold statement. Colourpop eyeshadows are also known for their high pigmentation, so they’re especially long-lasting on lids. However, we’re most obsessed with the packaging, which features both Pikachu and the original starter Pokémon on the front, and a collection of Kanto-region Pokémon on the inside. If you’re looking for a great, versatile eyeshadow palette, this might be the one for you!
