Overwatch 2 Season 10 is on the way and the first developer update of the year has outlined what to expect looking forward. Some good changes were unveiled like all heroes being unlocked immediately for everyone, the future for maps, a new game mode, and more.
Heroes no longer in battle pass
Starting with the headlining news, starting in Season 10, every single Overwatch 2 hero will be playable by everyone the moment they are released. Venture, the new hero coming in the new season, will not need to be unlocked in the battle pass like Mauga, Kiriko, and the rest of OW2’s new additions. If you have not unlocked those previous heroes, they will also be given to you the moment Season 10 starts.
New maps and updates to existing ones
What the rest of the year looks like for maps was also outlined. Runasapi is a map set in Peru, where Illari and her clan of solar warriors are from. Not much was able to be seen of the location, but we know it is a Push map coming in Season 11.
A new mode called Clash will be released alongside two maps later this year. One of these maps is Hanaoka, which looks to be a remake of Hanamura from the first game’s Assault 2CP mode. A playtest for Hanaoka will happen at the start of Season 10 to let players try the new mode.
Clash is similar to Push in that both teams are having a tug of war battle, but rather than escorting a robot, there are five points placed throughout the map. When a team grabs one, they can move further into enemy territory while the other team tries to retake that ground.
To finish off map news, Colosseo will be reworked in Season 11, and sometime after Season 12, there will be a season that won’t add a new map but instead will focus on reworking other existing maps like Numbani, Dorado, Circuit Royale, and Havana.
These are some exciting updates for Overwatch 2, and, even more excitingly, another developer update will be coming before Season 10 starts to outline other adjustments coming to the game.
