The Overwatch 2 community is discussing solo ults. If you are unaware, this is the act of using your character’s ultimate ability to eliminate one foe instead of saving it to try on multiple enemies. While throughout the game’s life, these situations have mostly been laughed at, players are discussing how it makes sense to use them in the right scenario.
When is a good time to solo ult in Overwatch 2?
As is the case with any situation, context is important for whether you want to solo ult an enemy or not. A lot of this comes down to the hero you are playing and how that particular enemy is having an effect on the game.
For example, a Mercy flying around the area healing her team solo ulted by Soldier: 76 or Cassidy makes sense. You are getting a lot of value by eliminating that one person. On the flip side, if you chase down a Tracer that isn’t doing much damage to your backline and take just her down with Reinhardt’s Earthshatter, that probably would have been better suited for a larger grouping of enemies.
In the Reddit post above, many of the Overwatch community have shared those same sentiments. The most commonly agreed Overwatch 2 heroes best used for solo ults seem to be Pharah, Cassidy, and Junkrat. A common theme with all three is that they are easy targets when they are using their ultimate. Other characters we would recommend are Tracer and Illari, with Mauga and Reinhardt being good options in certain scenarios as well. Avoid those situations, though, for heroes like Kiriko, Sombra, and D.Va.
The main point of the thread above is to say don’t be too afraid to use your ultimate. Solo ults in Overwatch 2 will mean you need to gather charge again, but that means you can begin progress. Saving your ultimate for a later fight could mean you lose access to multiple throughout the game because you waited too long.
