The critical reception of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake couldn’t have gone any better for Nintendo. Earlier this year, we saw Nintendo release Star Fox, which is a fully remade version of another N64 title that reportedly sold over one million copies as of September 2026. Following this, Nintendo fans were left wondering what could be next in the remake pipeline for Nintendo, and they didn’t have to wait too long for their answer.
It’s All About Balance
Recently, an interview was held between Polygon and Nintendo’s Senior Vice President of Product Development and Publishing, Nate Bihldorff. Within this interview, he seemingly implied that remakes of classic Nintendo games will play a large role in the company’s direction moving forward.
Bihldorff told Polygon, “I do think that new games and remakes both have a place in the Nintendo stable, of equal importance, to be honest. There are fans of every single IP that we have out there. Of course, having new games in those series is wonderful, and I look forward to them as much as anyone else does, but there’s also a deep satisfaction in revisiting games that were very, very special, like Ocarina of Time.”
While it is no secret that Nintendo remaking some of their most beloved retro games is a no-brainer for the company, the idea that remakes and new titles are being viewed as equals is what should be surprising. And now that we know more remakes are in the cards for Nintendo, fans can begin to speculate what game could be next.
Back to the Future
Nintendo is clearly fond of the N64 catalog, as two of the console’s heavy hitters have been given the remake treatment. One could assume that The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a likely candidate for a remake, especially seeing how a The Legend of Zelda movie is on the horizon as well. Another game that should surely be up for a remake is Super Mario 64, as it still stands as the game that started it all for many Nintendo fans out there. But for now, fans must wait for further details on brand new titles and remakes in the Nintendo pipeline heading into 2027 and beyond.
