Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen to Get a Physical ‘Special Edition’ Release In Japan

It was recently revealed that Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen will be hitting the Nintendo Switch eShop following the Pokémon Presents next week on February 27th. But for trainers outside Japan, the festivities surrounding this release might be cut short.

It was recently revealed via the Pokémon website that Japan-based trainers will be treated to a ‘Special Edition’ physical release of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen. The term “physical” can be used loosely here, seeing how only download codes for the games themselves will be included. But that doesn’t take away from how marvelous this special edition set truly is. It is also worth noting that there are two different bundles: a FireRed bundle and a LeafGreen bundle. The only difference between the two would be the contents of the download code that is provided.

The Special Edition bundle includes two reproductions of the original Japanese Game Boy Advance cases and a trio of laser-engraved glass balls that feature Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. But upon putting each starter on its respective stand that is included in the display case, each of them will light up with its respective red, green, and blue typing colors.

For those who are interested, this product will be available via the Japanese Pokémon Center online store on Saturday, February 28th. As for the ever-so-important price tag that will set trainers back 19,800 yen, which can be converted to $127.

At this moment in time, this is still classified as a Japan-only release. And the Pokémon Company stated in the product description that this may become available at physical Pokémon Centers at a later day so there may still be hope for us yet. But with Pokémon Day fast approach there is a slight chance this may not be the only special edition Pokémon-related thing to release. But for now, trainers around the world must remain patient with a little bit of hope.
