Randy Pitchford Borderlands Movie Now You See Mee

Randy Pitchford is best known for the creation of the Borderlands series. This creation has gone on to accumulate multiple mainline titles, with Borderlands 4 being released on September 12, 2025, and a few spin-off titles, such as Tales From the Borderlands. In perhaps in one of the series’ biggest achievements, it his the silver screen in 2024 with the Borderlands movie. Unfortunately, it was not well-received. However, despite Randy Pitchford being very hands-on with the project, he admitted in an interview with InsiderGaming that his “involvement in [Now You See Me: Now You Don’t] was more profound and deeper” than the Borderlands movie.

Randy Pitchford Talks to InsiderGaming About His Involvement in the Borderlands Movie

With Randy Pitchford being the CEO of Gearbox and the creator of the Borderlands series, you’d think that he would have had a major effect on the outcome of the Borderlands movie. It turns out, he had a bigger effect on a completely different movie: Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.

Speaking to InsiderGaming’s Grant Taylor-Hill, Pitchford stated, “In another life, I’m a magician, and recently with The Magic Castle, which is a club for magicians that I own in Hollywood, the Magic Castle team did all of the magic and magic productions for the upcoming movie, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.” He went on to say, “My involvement in that movie was more profound and deeper and had more effect on both the storytelling and on the result than the effect that I had on Borderlands, which is crazy!”

It is surprising to learn that Pitchford didn’t have a major effect on the outcome of the Borderlands movie. During the time of filming, he would often post about what was going on with the movie. At the end of the day, the Borderlands movie was considered a major flop, as many video game movie adaptations are, and is sitting at a 10% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is in part due to the movie that many were cautious about the upcoming Borderlands 4 title, but many have changed their minds about it after seeing character trailers for the Vault Hunters, such as Amon, and getting hands-on interactions with the game.
