Masahiro Sakurai, best known as the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, has astounded everyone by bringing together who he has dubbed “the Avengers of game directors.” Some of these creators include developers of popular series like Shadow of the Colossus, Undertale, and Resident Evil. Sakurai is also known for creating Kirby, the lovable pink ball that has been around since 1990. Kirby recently received a new game in the form of Kirby Air Riders on the Nintendo Switch 2, and another game featuring the character was announced during the last Nintendo Direct. However, many have wondered what Sakurai is working on next, and rumor has it that a new Super Smash Bros. game is inbound.
Sakurai Brings Together An Impressive Team of Developers
Masahiro Sakurai recently posted an image of a gathering of creators whom he has dubbed the “Avengers of game directors.” Among the guest list is Toby Fox – best known for Undertale and Deltarune, Hidetaki Kamiya – known for creating Okami and Bayonetta, Goichi Suda – the creator of No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw, Yoko Taro – creator of Nier, Fumito Ueda – creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Shinji Mikami – creator of Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, Ko Takeuchi – creator of WarioWare, and even Keiichiro Toyama – creator of Silent Hill.
Leaks have recently stated that Sakurai’s next project is either going to be a continuation of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or a new game in the Super Smash Bros. series, and the gathering of such famous creators has many curious about a possible connection to an upcoming project.
If Sakurai is working on a new Super Smash Bros. game, the crossover list could be quite impressive if the other creators in the room allow their characters to be licensed. This means that a new Super Smash Bros. game could potentially have the following characters:
- Bayonetta
- Amaterasu (Okami)
- Juliet Starling (Lollipop Chainsaw)
- Wander (Shadow of the Colossus)
- Harry Mason (Silent Hill)
- James Sunderland (Silent Hill 2)
- Regina (Dino Crisis)
- Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
- Chris Redfield (Resident Evil)
- Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil 2)
- Claire Redfield (Resident Evil 2)
- Sans (Undertale)
There are more characters who could be used from these games, but this is just a small sample of characters that could potentially be seen as new fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series. Of course, this is no guarantee that a new game is being worked on, but characters like these are not out of the realm of possibility, as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has characters like Joker, Cloud Strife, Simon, Ryu, and more.
