Twitch Gen AI Feature

You may have heard recently that Twitch has implemented the use of generative AI on its platform. You also might not have heard about it because there wasn’t a major announcement about it posted across numerous platforms. Either way, there are many who do not want to participate in training the platform’s generative AI. Luckily, there is a means of opting out of the training if you do not want to participate in it. So, let’s break down exactly what the generative AI training for Twitch is, and exactly how you can opt out of it for your account going forward.

What is the Twitch Generative AI Training?

Twitch uses AI for certain mechanics on its platforms, like creating captions and various safety tools. These are not generative AI, but are more AI-supported features of the platform.

The AI training allows Twitch to use your channel to train generative AI models. As per its FAQ page on the system, your channel will be used to train generative AI models that can “create or synthesize content outputs like text or images when given instructions or prompts.” These are standard generative AI models that you may have seen used by various companies to create voices, generate images, and more.

This type of AI has been under constant fire due to the practice of taking input from creators and using it to create something similar. Artists, content creators, and others have been affected by the use of generative AI.

Opting in to the feature allows Twitch to use your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures to train these generative AI models. This information is shared with Amazon to develop a generative AI model to generate text, audio, images, and videos. Theoretically, it could be used to create a generative AI Twitch streamer to replace existing content creators, but that is speculation.

How to Opt Out of the Twitch Generative AI Training

If you want to opt out of the generative AI training on Twitch, follow these steps.

  1. Select your channel icon in the upper right corner
  2. Choose the “Settings” option
  3. In the settings menu, select the “Security and Privacy” tab
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen
  5. Turn off the “training for generative AI” option

If the toggle is no longer purple and has no checkmark, it means you have successfully opted out, and your channel will no longer be used to train generative AI systems.
