Ubisoft recently announced major game cancellations, including three unannounced titles and the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. Along with this, the company closed one of its studios. This was followed by an announcement of over 200 additional layoffs. Needless to say, things are not looking good for Ubisoft at this moment, and there may be more bad news to come in the future, yet, somehow, through all this chaos, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is “unaffected” according to the game’s creative director.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 Remains “Unaffected” After Game Cancellations
One of the big questions many had was about how Beyond Good and Evil 2 would be affected by all the news coming out from Ubisoft. Thankfully, we have an answer, and it is thanks to the game’s creative director, Fawzi Mesmar. In a recent LinkedIn post, Mesmar stated, “Thank you for everyone who has reached out to me over the past few days in regards to recent news at Ubisoft. Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2, are unaffected by the recent changes. I would direct you to the official press release for more information around the latest organisational structure.”
The creative director also stated that he is “saddened by the cancellations” that have affected his colleagues and asked everyone to “offer support whenever and however they can during these times.”
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was originally announced in 2008. After a long hiatus, the game was re-revealed at E3 in 2017. Despite the long development time and lack of a release date, the game is still in production at Ubisoft. It is unclear if the layoffs, cancellations, or studio closures will affect the game’s development going forward, but, for now, there isn’t anything to worry about when it comes to Beyond Good and Evil 2.
