Shield surfing has returned in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Link has proven in recent game releases that he is quite athletic and can coast down any hill if he has a shield on him. While it can destroy your protective gear, it is really fun to pull off. Here is how to shield surf in Zelda: TotK.

How do you shield surf in Tears of the Kingdom?

If you played Breath of the Wild, the method of shield surfing in Tears of the Kingdom is the same. First, equip a shield. Next, hold ZL to pull it out. To ride your shield, press X to jump and then press A while in the air. Link will flip and start sliding around on his shield. You will stay on the shield as long as you have momentum or until it breaks. You don’t need a hill if a sand seal pulls you along in the desert.

Can you go straight to the final boss in Tears of the Kingdom?

While surfing on your shield, you can attack enemies you get close to by pressing Y. Link will spin around and slash enemies with his shield. Remember that your shield will take durability hits while you shield surf. Doing it on rocks will make the item break faster. Your shield will not break quite as fast when on snow or sand. To help make it last longer, try fusing the shield with various materials.

Shield surfing is a fun thing to do while exploring the world. If you are low on the number of shields in your inventory, we recommend avoiding it, but if you are overfilled, go for it. You don’t need it to reach any particular area, but there may be puzzles that you have to use it.
