Pathfinder has a successful history of releasing pawn boxes. These are miniature-sized cardstock images of creatures and characters that stand upright on a base. They are useful to put on your gaming maps for more immersive battles. With the new adventure campaigns based on the second edition of Pathfinder’s rules coming this year, publisher Paizo has launched a new pawn box. Titled the Pathfinder RPG: Monster Core Pawn Box, it promises over 450 double-sided pawns for use in-game.
The images on the cardstocks are quite beautifully done. They are fully colored and the size will vary based on the size of the monster. That means if you are fighting a very large monster in your TTRPG game, the pawn card will tower over your adventuring party. The benefit of cardstock images over plastic miniatures is the ease of storage, transportability, and cost effectiveness. These cards do not take up a lot of room, making them simpler to store in your gaming cabinet. They are easy and light to pack and travel with you to a friend’s house for a game. If you are looking to save money, you often must buy unpainted plastic miniatures from the game store. But the pawns from Pathfinder allow you to have fully colored and stylized images to grace your gaming table for less money. More money means more dice, after all.

All the pawns in this box will be from the Pathfinder 2E Monster Core Remastered book which is already available to buy. The pawn box will be put into gaming stores and online retailers June 26, 2024. The box will be sold at a price of $74.99.
The monster book itself features stats and information for over 400 monsters including eight brand-new dragons. It’s printed in hardcover with 376 pages and is available anywhere Pathfinder books are sold.
The question now is how many of these 450 pawns can you include across your campaign?
