The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection launch has been a complete disaster. Don’t take our word for it, take the the word of over 1,000 fans on Steam who have reviewed the game in the few hours since it launched. With a mostly negative score, this is going down as one of the worst launches of all time. Aspyr has a bit of explaining to do since they fumbled this one. Isn’t this studio making the Knight of the Old Republic remake as well? Yikes.
Star Wars fans everywhere have been asking for a re-release of the original Battlefront games for a long time. Since EA massacred the series revival, many have longed to go back to the good ol’ days. Unfortunately, that has not been going very well since the launch of the Classic Collection has fallen like the Emperor in Episode VI.
@CultureCrave posted some stats on the launch on X. The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection launched with only three servers. Each of these servers could hold 64 players. This means a grand total of 192 players could be online at one time shooting each other during the battle of Hoth or bombarding the beaches of Kashyyk. Unfortunately for these servers, there were nearly 10,000 players storming into the game at launch.
Other issues that players have had include crashes which seem to happen when they finally get into a game, severe lag, poor aim assist, no inverted flight controls, audio and lighting issues, and there were even missing cutscenes. We aren’t sure what was going on at Aspyr Studios but clearly, somebody dropped the ball on this launch and it caused the whole game to go up like Alderaan.
All of these issues have led to the game having a score of only 21% positive on Steam. Audience reviews on Google currently have the game sitting at one star. Hopefully, Aspyr can get it together and fix the mess it created. Otherwise, this will go down as one of the worst launches in history.
