Nintendo Switch Virtual Boy Costs $100, Fans Question the Product

As part of the Nintendo Direct today, it was announced that the Virtual Boy library is making its way to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion, but with caveats. After subscribing to the service, you must also purchase a new accessory for the Switch to be able to play the games. Now the price has dropped for that accessory, and people are put off by it.

Nintendo Switch Virtual Boy Price is Way Too High

The Virtual Boy accessory for the Nintendo Switch is now on the Nintendo store, priced at $99.99. Needless to say, for one of the biggest failures in video game hardware history, that’s a tough ask for a lot of people to get into. Especially considering that it will only play up to 14 games by the time the entire library is released.

While the normal accessory is quite expensive, the cardboard variant is a lot cheaper at $24.99. However, “cheaper” does not exactly equate to “worth it.”

That’s the main crux of the conversation on Reddit, where the biggest Nintendo fans and physical collectors are saying they are not interested in purchasing the Virtual Boy accessories one bit.

No freaking way Nintendo.

The Virtual Boy was well-known at its release for inducing headaches and back pain. Generally, it was recommended to only play these games for about 15 minutes at a time. If the NSO games were available to play without the cardboard or Virtual Boy replica, this wouldn’t be much of a discussion. However, that requirement muddies things up quite a bit.

The Virtual Boy is a neat commodity to talk about today, but 30 years after its release, no one necessarily wants to go out of their way to buy an expensive headset that doesn’t even come with the controller for the system.
