To celebrate their 30th anniversary, The Pokémon Company swung big and revealed the 10th generation of Pokémon games titled Winds and Waves. Along with its first official trailer, the Pokémon website shared more information that gives trainers a bit more insight into where their next grand adventure will take place!
Ride The Winds and Waves

As described by the Pokémon website, “Developed by GAME FREAK exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, these new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.” The description continued, “The Pokémon that live in harmony with this region’s lush environment have developed their own unique ecosystems. During this adventure, you’ll team up with all kinds of Pokémon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times.”
Based on the titles alone, the forces of nature could be the focal point of these games. Pulling from this recently released description, nature will have a sizeable impact on how you approach your adventure. Throughout various moments of this reveal trailer as well, the player can be seen traversing various biomes, such as a lava-filled cavern, vast oceans, dense yet lush jungles, and sandy shorelines. It’s also worth mentioning the heavy implication that players will finally be able to dive to the ocean floor and swim amongst sea dwelling Pokemon, which has been a big request from the fanbase.
The Perfect Team

With every new Pokémon game comes a new starter trio, and there seems to be an early frontrunner for the fan favorite. While it was a quick glimpse at this trio, we started with the clumsy Bean Chick Pokémon Browt. This was followed up by the friendly fire Puppy Pokémon, Pombon. Last but certainly not least is the intelligent Water Gecko Pokémon Gecqua, which is the starter I am leaning towards for now. On the other hand, polling the Pokémon fanbase at large, many have been planting their roots with Pombon.

It was also revealed that a pair of special pair of Pikachus will be a part of this game as well. Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu were shown off at the start of this reveal trailer, but the Pokémon company has stated we have to wait just a bit longer to figure out their exact purpose. Boasting some beach-ready gear and a sun-kissed tan, the duo looks ready to tackle anything that comes between them and a relaxing tropical getaway.
Setting Sail In The Right Direction
There was a lot of high expectation set for Pokémon Winds and Waves. On top of being the 10th generation in a long line of wildly popular games, Pokémon, as of late, lost some of its magic according to some. The fanbase at large yearns for a truly cohesive open world that takes full advantage of Nintendo’s newly minted hardware in the Switch 2.
While it was a rather quick glimpse, Pokémon Winds and Waves looks impressive early on and got a little bit of that classic Pokémon hype back in the air for many, myself included. As for a release date, we can look to get Pokémon Winds and Waves sometime in 2027 as a Switch 2 exclusive. For now, we must eagerly await another look at this game in the coming months, but for now, I’d say the Pokémon Company did a great job with this highly anticipated reveal.
