Xbox has seen its fair share of changes to the brand over a short amount of time. Ever since Asha Sharma took over as CEO, the brand has seen changes to its Game Pass service, the removal of the controversial “this is an Xbox” campaign, and the newly announced return of console exclusives. While this may have been just the first couple of months for Asha Sharma, it looks like even bigger changes are to come from Xbox as the year winds down.
Truly a New Era
A recent interview was held with Fortune Conversations and Xbox’s CEO, Asha Sharma. Within this interview, Asha Sharma spoke about how Xbox wants to implement more “flexible offerings,” which signifies a larger change to Xbox’s previous business model. And when asked about those future changes, she stated that Xbox will continue to explore “new business models.”
Sharma expanded on this point further by stating that the requirement isn’t just “the most premium, high-performance console in the world.” She indicated that the market is clearly changing and that “we’ve reached a point where it will be hard to imagine that mass audiences can afford 1000s of dollars to spend on a console generation.” She closed by stating players will be seeing “radically different business models that we never expected to start to come into orbit later this year.”
Cheaper Consoles Inbound?
At face value, it is really hard to believe that consoles could even get a cheaper price tag, given how bad the industry has been. But what is reassuring is the fact that Asha Sharma knows that a console with an outrageous price tag isn’t something anyone wants to see. And for Xbox specifically, they can’t afford another blunder when it comes to the release of Project Helix. For now, as fans, the only thing we can do is sit back and watch this grand plan for Xbox unfold.
