Xbox Matt Booty on Xbox Showcase

For a while now, Xbox has allowed its games to be spread across multiple platforms. While this works for most games, players have been wondering if there would be a return to Xbox console exclusivity. Well, everyone got an answer about exclusivity during Summer Games Fest, with the first upcoming Xbox console exclusive game being Gears of War E-Day. The exclusivity of this title was debated by fans for months leading up to the announcement, but this isn’t the only exclusive to the console, as Clockwork Revolution will also be an Xbox console exclusive title. However, further exclusives, according to Matt Booty, will be on a “case-by-case basis.”

Matt Booty Lays Out Xbox Console Exclusivity

Matt Booty sat down for an interview with Gamertag Radio shortly after the Xbox Summer Games Fest Showcase and laid out the ongoing console exclusivity strategy. Booty stated, “We want to be clear. Our big multiplayer games, live-service games, are going to continue to be multi-platform.” You won’t need to worry about any multiplayer games going forward.

Something else you don’t need to worry about is games that have already been promised to other platforms. Booty stated, “If we’ve promised something to players already, we’re gonna honor that promise.” He went on to say, “As Asha said, we’re gonna make the right decision, not the fast decision.” This is in reference to console-exclusive titles. Booty followed this up by saying, “When we announce a date, we want to announce the platforms. So, it’s going to be case-by-case.”

Nothing is set in stone with upcoming titles like The Elder Scrolls VI or the next Fallout title, but players will know whether these games are console exclusives when they receive a release date. Hopefully, Xbox receives some strong exclusive titles going forward, with big names that will help rebuild the platform in a good way.
