Pokémon Scalpers Are Reselling Limited Edition Pop-Tarts

The terms limited edition and scalpers reluctantly go together like peanut butter and jelly. The Pokémon fanbase has been subjected to their evil ways for years now, but with Pokémon currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, a slew of new merchandise has hit shelves around the world. Like Team Rocket, scalpers took it upon themselves to ruin the fun for true fans of Pokémon and sink to a new low with their most recent big-ticket item.

Prices Be Popping

Recently, the Pokémon Company and Target collaborated on a wide range of products that recently hit shelves around the world. The items in this collaboration range from Pokémon-themed water bottles, basketballs, and various pieces of clothing that are flying off the rack. The most nostalgic item of the bunch included a Pokémon-themed box of Pop-Tarts, which to the untrained eye might not appear to be a hot item. But to those ravenous scalpers out there, this was viewed as a prime money-making opportunity.

Target listed these Pokémon-branded Pop-Tarts for $3, which is right on par with an everyday bundle. Outside of the branding on the box, there isn’t anything too special about these vanilla frosted treats. And sure, while these specific pastries haven’t been available for 25 years, the prices at which they’re going for online are well beyond the reasonable threshold. Thanks to Dextro, some digging online was done, and they found listings on eBay that sold for $25 and a few unsold listings at $50.

Blasting Off Again

Pokémon Pop-Tarts reselling for an insane price seems like a new low that scalpers have somehow managed to hit. At least back in the early 2000s, those  Pop-Tarts came with a toy, unique flavors, and Pokémon-shaped sprinkles to make it feel that much more special. And given the lengths that individuals have gone to recently, like hiding out in a Best Buy after it closed for cards, this really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise when it comes to freshly minted Pokémon merchandise.
