It’s been a long five years since we’ve gotten a new Halo game. But this will all change later this year, and fans will be treated to Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is the remake of Master Chief’s first adventure. Now it seems as if Halo Studios is looking to continue this momentum as a new report claims Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are currently in production.
Remastering the Fight
It’s been a well-known secret by now that Halo Studios has a vested interest in redoing the original Halo trilogy with Unreal Engine, but many fans viewed Halo 2 and 3 remakes as a faraway dream. Recently, it was those dreams that turned into somewhat of a reality as some very positive news was broken by the insider Rebs Gaming.
“In a previous video report, I revealed that a former Halo Studios developer confirmed to me that the studio is remaking the Halo trilogy. Since then, I’ve received confirmation from two more sources that Halo Studios is developing remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3.”
Halo Studios themselves have previously confirmed that they are indeed working on “multiple projects” as they are attempting to move on from the Slipspace engine to Unreal Engine. Another rumored project allegedly includes a standalone multiplayer experience that has yet to be revealed. Outside of the ever-so-controversial addition of sprinting, Rebs Gaming also stated that Campaign Evolved will include elements from future entries within new missions, such as Brutes, which could be added with skull modifiers.
Welcome Back, Spartan
The reception from the Halo fanbase has been mixed upon receiving this news. Some believe that Halo Studios should focus on the future of the Halo franchise and moving it forward rather than looking to the past. On the other hand, there is a section of the Halo fanbase that welcomes this news with arms wide open and even goes so far as to call for remakes of Halo ODST and Reach. The one glaring issue that could be a minor need for panic is how Campaign Evolved lacks a multiplayer component. But when we look back on Halo 2 and Halo 3, they are widely renowned for their multiplayer offerings. Omitting this from these remakes would almost certainly land Halo Studios in hot water, so in the meantime, we will have to wait and see what they’re cooking up at Halo Studios.
