On Thursday/Friday, Sony dropped a 500kg bombshell on Helldivers 2 players. Those who have been enjoying the game over the last few months were shocked to see that a PlayStation Network account would soon be required to play the game. This didn’t sit well with many as there are quite a number of countries that don’t have access to PSN and therefore can’t make an account. The Helldivers 2 community manager has given an update on the matter and it is positive for those who are worried they will be booted from the game when this update takes effect.
Earlier today, Helldivers 2 community manager Spitzerfx took to Discord and let everyone know that “Players making their displeasure known through reviews, refunds, etc. gives us more pull in discussion with Sony.” They also said that the “team is on the side of the players in this fight. It’s unrealistic to expect people to make PSN accounts in different regions to get past the account linking requirement.” In this statement, they don’t acknowledge that some players are getting banned for attempting to use VPNs to make accounts in different countries.

Later on, the community manager stated they were “assured that we won’t be making the requirement mandatory for those players.” They also stated that Arrowhead is “not going to force people to either break Sony TOS [Terms of Service] or not play the game.”

Within the last few days, Helldives 2 has been review bombed with multiple individuals requesting refunds due to the game requiring a third-party account to be created to play. Many have been voicing their concerns and it seems to be having an affect in the talks between Arrowhead and Sony. The latest MO is to turn the tide of this decision into one that benefits the players and not the corporations. Helldivers, unite!
