Helldivers 2 is a pretty unique game that many cling to because of its focus on co-op gameplay. Thousands of players flock to the game to help spread managed democracy each day. What if we told you that the game is missing features that it should have had from day one? Well, that is what players are rediscovering about a month later. A message from Pilestedt has resurfaced and it focuses on the helmets in Helldivers 2 and how they used to be much different than they are now. Perhaps this change will come in the future.
In the past month, Pilestedt went from being the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios to taking on the role of CCO so he could focus more on Helldivers 2 from a gameplay standpoint. Shams Jorjani took control of Arrowhead as the new CEO and has since been helping the game go in a new direction. Namely, the development company is now taking a longer time on patches so they can be more meaningful and listening to the community more about what changes need to be made.
Recently, a message from Pilestedt from before he changed positions resurfaced and it stems from someone asking if there were plans for adding traits to capes and helmets. In response to this Pilestedt said, “Originally, each helmet was going to have a unique “HUD” – so medics would be able to see health, recon would get enemy outlines, etc. But we unfortunately had to cut it due to… Well, having to ship the game.” This was posted on Reddit by user Efficient_Age.
This means that the devs could have been working on this feature before the game was set to be released and it would possibly be a feature they add in the future. After all, players have been asking for special features such as this for a while. With that being said, Arrowhead’s new approach to community feedback could be what revives the talks of helmets having special effects.
One user said, “Would be a cool feature to make a return in the future of the game.” Another user responded by saying, “Run those features back. They sound dope and it almost gives a class system of immersion.” Arrowhead has received many positive responses so far since information about the next major patch was released. More positive feedback came from the announcement of the Viper Commandos Warbond. Going forward, we could see a new path for Helldivers 2 and it looks strong. If anything, we hope the company doesn’t deliver another Polar Patriots Warbond.
